I just wanted to let you know I really
love reading the book reviews in the magazine, I buy most of
the books you discuss.
Thanks,
Melissa Lucas, Tehachapi, CA
Thanks Melissa I think the By The Book series is a good addition
to the magazine. Dennis Guldan
I would also like to thank Dennis for his editorial two issues
back about cleaning up our sport/industry. It was absolutely
correct and needed to be said. I wish more editors would have
the guts to do the same. Thank you for the great services that
you provide.
Keep up the good work. I apologize for the tardiness of this
renewal. I just got back from three weeks of fishing in Alaska.
I have paid on line.
Thanks again! Paul Swift/Swift Creek Labradors, Harrisburg,

Paul I hope you had a good time in Alaska,
Thanks again for subscribing. Dennis Guldan
Dennis, I am in charge of donations for our annual banquet and
love your magazine. Is it possible that we can get a few copies
of Bird Dog & Retriever News as a donation for our banquet?
I think it they would look great on the tables and you might
get a few new readers. Chuck F, Rockford, IL
Chuck, what great idea. Yes we can donate some magazines to your
banquet, we would be glad to do so. As a matter a fact we are
going to contact every sporting dog club we have a contact person
with and offer to do the same. So Bird Dog & Retriever News
should be in front of all the hard core sporting dog owners
across the nation. That should help everyone! Thanks for the
great idea. It would help if you could have your donation person
go to our website and fill out the donation request, we'll take
care of the rest. Dennis Guldan

Dennis, I have always wanted to write for a dog magazine.
I have been training for years and I think I have some great
ideas. Would you be interested in an article from a professional
in the dog business but someone who has never had anything published?
And if so where do I start? Jerry B, Winter, WI
Jerry, we are always looking for great new writers. One of the
hardest thing to get across to people is how long the process
is. I try to take about two hours per page. That seems like a
huge amount of time, but in fact that is about standard in the
industry.
I will typically work on each page in about four settings. It
may take me forty five minutes to write the initial pass. Then
I will let it sit for a day or two. Then I will come back and
take another thirty minutes and reread it and correct and add
things.
Then wait an additional day or two and return to it. It is at
that point that I spell check it and grammar check it. I also
do the most critical step, I read the article out loud. Then
every place I stumble in the reading I highlight and come back
and rewrite that area. That reading out loud really helps to
find errors spelling and grammar checks can not. This step will
probably take 20 to 30 minutes. I then set the article aside
again.
Then one last time I pick up the article and read it again out
loud, if all goes well it is informative and I do not stumble
while reading, at which point I gather up a picture or two and
the article is done. That's what works for me. Good luck, I look
forward to seeing the article. Remember keep it short under two
pages or 1000 words. Dennis Guldan
