October/November 2004 Now in our thirteenth year. www.Bdarn.com

Welcome to the October/November issue of Bird Dog & Retriever News. Thanks subscribers and advertisers for staying with us. By the time you get this, the fall bird seasons should be open or nearly open across the country.
I'm starting to again to like the way we are evolving the magazine. I have argued with writers and others but I believe we should have more and shorter articles. These days, people just don't have time to read 1500 word three page articles. It seems like two page articles are much preferred. Which is about what you can read in one sitting if you know what I mean.
We are also returning to our roots of our name Bird Dog & Retriever News which means offering the latest news from the hunting dog world. I'm happy with the amount of spaniel coverage we have. I am looking to expand our coverage of pointers and retriever breeds.
We have had a ton of compliments about adding spaniel trial and test results, which currently are available nowhere else but on the web. And I know how some of you hate computers. The pointer people have been asking, when THEIR results will be featured. With the Dec/Jan issue and the local bird count news slowing down; we'll start adding those results. For the retriever people, there already exists a publication dedicated to just those results.
Briefly what is in this issue. Dave Duffey teaches us about using an electronic collar on dogs. For you waterfowl enthusiasts TR Michels takes us into the life of the goose. Jerry Thoms interviews a few publishers and people who may actually know what they are talking about and tells us about pheasant dogs. The featured book this issue is To The Point by Dale Spartas & Tom Davis. David Krassler will talk to us about refining a flushing dogs hunting pattern. Ted Jarosh is back talking about the king of all game birds the Wis Ruffed Grouse. I take a look at why you should always buy from a pro and take you on a photo essay of the MN Hunting Spaniel Association training day. Tony Roettger tells us all about how all great trainers start and the patience it takes to get to the top. Finally, I have added a page for you word find nuts to find all the dog breeds. Remember to put a pencil in the john. That's it for now, see you in the field, and at the trial, tests & shows.
