Dennis, great article about the Garmin Rhino 120 GPS
in last issues product review. I admire what you wrote. I have
a Garmin Rhino 120. I also have the exact same problems. Keep
up the good work.
Scott Blakesly, PA
Thanks, Scott. I love my Magellan GPS, I had hoped the Rhino
would be even better. Goes to show you, newer isn't always better.
But if I find a better one I will let the readers know. And yes
I am willing to look at models if they are sent to me. I would
be willing to look at the latest models of trucks too! I enjoy
writing the column and have items for the next year, but I'm
always looking for great new products for myself and to sell
on our Guldans.com online store.

Dennis, I'm looking for a pup. I know you purchased
two pups in the past two years. Can you give me a clue where
to start? Jerry W. Salina, KS
Jerry, your right Jenny just turned two and Scooby is about
two and a half. The number one thing I look for is the breeder.
Take a look at the back of this magazine. There are many fine
ones there. Drive out to see them. Walk around their kennel,
that will tell you a lot about them and their dogs.
Find out if they test dogs. Frankly if the breeder doesn't
test their dogs, I would not buy from them. If they do test,
be it hunt tests or field trials, go and watch them run. Least
you will know if they can find birds. Also you can get a sense
what other people think of the breeder. And if things don't

turn out for the best, you'll meet some other breeders.
Lastly, I know this is tough, but expect to wait about a year
to get a good pup. Check out the breeder, do your homework and
tell the breeder what your looking for. No you do not want the
next dog to take nationals. They typically are a pain to be around
and pricey as hell. And word is typically a dog THAT intense
doesn't fit in well in the family or the hunt.
But take your time and do it right. You will have the pup
for maybe 15 years. Long time with a poor dog. And by the way
plan on paying $100 a year for the dog. That's less then $10
a month. That's $1500 so when you find a great one for $900 you'll
know your getting a steal. Dennis G
Send in your cards and photos, we can always use them.
