Welcome to the Feb/March issue of Bird Dog & Retriever
News. Yes it's late, but we decided to hold off going to press
until we were done with and reported on the annual Pheasantfest
this year in our backyard in St. Paul. Thanks to all our subscribers
and advertisers for supporting us through another year.
We have some exciting news for our readers and advertisers. Bird
Dog & Retriever News is kinda spliting into TWO magazines.
Actually it will still be Bird Dog & Retriever News, but
with the popularity of the web we will be offering a free online
version coming out at the same time with the same perhaps additional
content. Our readers and advertisers have been asking for this
for years, and we are finally giving in. We will finally be offering
online only ads in all the sizes. If you are in the print version
you will be both online and in print. The online version will
be available online on the first of the month of that issue and
yes it will be free! Without the limits of paper, mail or time
we then can give you the latest bird counts without holding up
the print version. If you want to print off the online version
we will offer that too. So now it is up to you print, online
or both! We think you will like it.
Magazines and newspapers are every year getting squeezed through
the economics of our industry. We have not raised our subscription
price in over 10 years. Few things in life have not gone up in
price in the past ten years. We did so despite nearly annual
increase in printing and mailing costs. So we are finally going
to raise our price $5 a year, we do that at the same time we
offer your favorite magazine for free on the web. Hopefully if
the $5/year is a burden you will still read us for free online.
I just finished my first pass at updating our website. I believe
we now have every recognized dog club, conservation organization
and important government agency just a few clicks away from any
of our 15,000 page web page. This is an ongoing project, but
the largest part of the updates have been completed. If we missed
something please let us know.
There are a lot of fun and interesting things in this issue including
a newly form breed club in the U.S. for German Longhair Pointers.
We also offer you a few pictures of the St. Paul Pheasantfest
and Land O' Lakes Kennel Club Shows. In addition to our usual
great number of writers and articles.
See you in the field and at the events,
