describe. This will make your spaniel work
harder and maintain his good attitude during these permanent
blind drills!
Start by running some sight blinds (a minimum of six). This will
teach the spaniel that he must hold a straight initial line through
all different types of cover and terrain. Naturally, we will
teach our student one sight blind at a time and add an additional
blind, as they become confident on their blinds. So lets get
started on the sight blinds.
Mark the beginning and final destination of the permanent sight
blind drill. Place |
a dead bird at the final destination of
the initial line. Retrieve your spaniel and walk them down his
initial line to the spot where you have placed the dead bird.
Once your spaniel has made visual sight of the dead bird, give
him a "dead bird" command. Then walk him on heel, back
down the initial line, to the starting point. Set the dog up.
Wait until the dog locks onto the landscape item that you have
chosen for him. Finally, give the proper command sequence and
send them for the bird.
The spaniel should run a straight line to the "find"
area and make the retrieve easily. However if for some reason
he veers off the initial line, give him a " NO- HERE"
command, recalling him back to the beginning. Move up closer
to the find |
