 Fences
My wife and I have two Vizslas. A very sweet and sensitive six year old male and a more independent, head-strong four year old female. We recently moved from a home with a fenced yard. Unfortunately, the new neighborhood does not allow fencing unless you have a pool. We are in no position to buy a pool in order to have a fence.
We need to find a solution to the fence issue. I am looking for some feedback on whether an electric fencing system is an appropriate solution. I hunt both dogs extensively in the fall and am worried that the fence may ruin their range and make them timid, especially the sensitive male. Any solutions or comments appreciated.

I am assuming you are talking about an invisible fence. I have not had an issue - I hunt my dog as well - he knows the difference between his property boundaries and the field.

Curly Coats/Poodles
Curly Coat Retrievers Look like Poodles. Do they have hair that people aren't allergic to also?
Curlies are not hypoallergenic If you have allergies to dog hair, dander or saliva, you may have problems with a curly. The somewhat oilier coat does keep down some dander, but not all of it. If you have severe dog allergies, you will probably have problems living with a curly. Many breeders and owners would be glad to have you visit their dogs to see if you can tolerate being around them. It is never fair to get a

puppy then find out your allergies are too bad and you have to tie the dog up outside away from the family for the majority of its life. A curly should be with people. Think of what is best for the dog.

Toller?
I saw a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever the other day on a dog show on TV. What is THAT?

It's a small retriever originally from Nova Scotia of Eastern Canada. The AKC just recently recognized them so you should be seeing a lot more of them in the upcoming years.
The are great little dogs and do something called tolling, which is running up and down the bank to attract the ever curious ducks. At which time the hunter shoots the ducks.
The only problem with the breed is they are still a bit rare. But go to a dog show in your area and you should be able to find a few breeders. But just like Goldens, just because they look like a hunting dog, does not mean they have hunting ability.
