for small game and $25.00 for deer (two tags). In 1909 nonresident males over 16 years old required a hook and line fishing license ($1.00). State residents did not require a fishing license until 1933 when anyone over 18 years was required to have one.

Some licenses have a greater value than others. Doctors require years of study before they complete board exams to obtain a license to practice medicine. All states require a drivers test to obtain a drivers license. When it comes to fishing anyone meeting the age requirement can purchase a license. There is no test to see if you know how to fish. The same is true with hunting. Most states have mandatory hunter's safety program but there is no test to see if you know how to shoot and hit something.
Each state had it's own time line when licenses for hunting were required and like today the laws very from state to state. That is why it is so important to make sure you understand the requirements to hunt when you plan a trip to go out of your state.
Having a license regardless of what it is used for is a privilege and should be held in high regard. Each of us has the responsibility to take care of it and make sure that it doesn't become a "WET LICENSE". Maybe one hundred years from now someone will look at yours and wonder what is was used for.
