Hi Dennis, It is me again...... after I wrote you I
knew I had read several stories this season on treating dogs
for heat problems. So I started to look in magazines to find
what I had read.... BINGO.. the best story was by Dave Duffey
in BD&RN. You were already in front of this..... It was in
my head......... However, the poor hunters didn't see it in S.D.
Duffey is clear that if the Temps get to 80 degrees DO NOT HUNT
your dog.
I can hardly ask you to do more........ I can only believe there
were not more dead dogs because someone read the article and
did not hunt. I remember that our hunting party a few years back
quit after 3 days and went home (S.D.) due to the heat, in fact
that is why I had a hard time with this issue. Loyde Childs ..Marshall,

Years ago, when I was putting together Bird Dog & Retriever
News I wanted the best writers in the industry. Few would argue
Dave Duffey if not the best is on the short list. Say what you
want about Dave he is not politically correct, but then this
entire magazine is not politically correct. Dave knows dogs and
hunters better than anyone I know. With this being a dry hot
year Dave could see it developing. I'm sorry more hunters don't
heed Dave's common sense, if they did more dogs would be alive
today. Give them hell Dave! Dennis G
Dear Dennis, In the past couple of years of my "birddogging"
my wife has graciously agreed to buy a tract of land and build
a hunting camp/retirement home/kennel for my enjoyment. With

most of the kids gone but 1 left to face college, we
decided we should make cut backs, so we decided on letting all
of our magazine subscriptions run out. This past week I received
my final issue of BD&RN so I always read the "Last Laugh"
to my wife while she is washing the supper dishes. After reading
Suzies in Heat, My wife and I laughed for an hour, and to my
surprise she said this is one magazine we have to keep getting.
Keep up the humor. Joe Pantella, Jim Thorpe, PA
P.S By the way my Birddogs name is Bullseye, a Brittany.
Despite what any publisher or editor of any magazine, newspaper,
TV or radio show will tell you all we are selling is entertainment.
If we learn something and have a laugh, all the better. You can
watch the evening news and hear what was gonna kill you last
year is now good for you. The only two things I believe in with
respect to health, other than everything in moderation is: Stress
will kill you before anything else and the only thing that can
counter stress is a good laugh. You keep reading and I'll keep
finding those jokes that are just on the edge of being tasteful.

Dennis, the Irish Setter Club of America voted to move their ad
from Pointing Dog Journal to your magazine. I need to discuss
prices and details. Please let me know when I can contact you
next week to make arrangements. Thanks and I look forward to
working with you. Ray
Ray, we'll take care of it, thanks for your support, yell if
we can do anything else for your fine organization to help. DG

I have my own website and that is where I am getting
80% of my calls from. My other customers are coming from Newspaper
ads. I have advertised in 5 magazines all years and they just
don't seem to be working so I am going to discontinue magazine
advertising. I have spent more on the advertising than I have
sold from the advertising in magazines. Pete
I can't argue with your logic. But take a look at HOW people
are getting to your website. I did a search on Google of "xxx
Bird Dogs" Below you will see the results. Of the top eight
paths to your website FIVE or 62.5% of them came from Bird Dog
News or Canine Today pages. In fact THE FIRST TWO came from BDARN
pages. Those pages will stay out there, the only thing after
this weekend, they will link to other breeders. I'm not telling
you how to run your business or spend your marketing dollar.
But you need to know HOW people are finding your web site.
Then I did a search on Google of "Gordon Setters" 20%
of the first page were Bird Dog News pages. Bdarn/Canine Today/Hunter
Angler (pages I own) had about a dozen pages listed before your
placing of #54. Just be aware of what you're doing, and how your
clients are finding your site.
There are a hundred thousand dog breed web pages out there. The
$15 a month we charge for a print adv and a listing on our web
page simply allows more people to find you a head of your competitors.
We have more advertisers than any other hunting dog magazine
very simply because our ads pay for themselves with both print
and web exposure. But only time will tell, monitor your website
results after we drop the link to your site. If you find the
$15 a month a worthy investment give me a call. Dennis G
Keep the letters and pictures coming
we'll make room.
