Goose hunting that evening
If you ever get a chance to hunt goose from ground blinds with
an experienced team... take it. We were given a word of warning
"DO NOT! SHOOT! before you are told, though you'll want
to!" It was incredible, you could feel the wind as the flock
was landing and they were setting their wings under tree-top
high.
Ron shot his first goose with his .410 to give you a clue how
close they were.
The concept was to put out a decoy spread and call them in as
we hid in Final Approach coffin-type blinds. Then at point blank,
open up on them. Jerry Thoms shot a triple.
The blinds had two flaps to cover you and was VERY comfortable...
sleepable even. They retail for about $250 a piece.

Ron with his first goose, shot with a .410

The blinds blended in perfect after we loaded them with local
grasses.

The geese were lower than the treetops when we opened up.
We had to stuff grass in special loops in the blinds to blend
into the days cover.
