Thanks Greg, that's what we are here for, to help you sell quality
dogs to quality customers at the lowest cost. Dennis G
Dennis I have a drop dead gorgeous dog that would look great
on the cover of Bird Dog & Retriever News. Do you take cover
shots from amateurs? And how would I go about getting my dog
on the cover? Tom T Peoria, IL
Tom that's easier said then done. First if you have web access
go to: www.Bdarn.com/backissues on that page you will see all
the back issue covers. You can see we like a vertical or tall
picture for the cover. One that usually shows the entire dog
and one with an interesting background. So instead of taking
a picture of your dog in your yard, find an old fence post, an
old barn or a wagon wheel. |
Take a pair of boots a gun and a bird if
you have one. With the season right around the corner this is
not tough to do. Then do as I say throw film. I shoot usually
fifty shots in the same sitting to get a good expression of the
dog and the head cocked the right way. Did I tell you most dogs
will pose for about ten seconds? Then when you pick that dynamite
shot send it in and I'll see what I can do. Worse case it will
be inside the magazine as pictures from the field. Dennis G
Dennis & Ellen you produce a magazine equaled by none. Your
to-the-point articles and relentless pursuit of the bad guys
from the enemy camp is greatly appreciated in a society that
abhors guns and hunting, in a world when some days WE are the
hunted. Keep up the good work I'm staying with you as long as
you are publishing. Jeff W Kansas city, MO |
Jeff, Ellen and I thank you for your kind words. I like
you, get tired of the same old publications that are always trying
to be politically correct, we are not and are proud of it. We
appreciate yours and all our reader and advertisers support.

Dennis, What is the best way to get my dog ready for the hunting
season? Game farms aren't cheap but I know I need to get birds
in front of my dog before opener. Any advice? Gary W. Stevens
Point, WI
Gary, go to the back of this magazine under calender of events
and go to your state and perhaps neighboring state. Pick up the
phone and call the number of the hunt secretary next to the kind
of dog (ptr, spaniel, retriever) you have. Tell them you would
like to come out to their fun training days, usually once a month.
Best call you'll ever make. Dennis G
Send in your cards and photos, we can always use them.
